Golden Eye
Golden Eye
Goldeneyes, with their round heads and watchful golden eyes, are charming little birds that gaze at the world with a mix of curiosity and caution. This spring, I had the opportunity to observe a goldeneye family from a hidden spot. For two weeks, I followed their young ducklings as they explored, zipping across the water like little motorboats, while their mother worked tirelessly to protect her brood of ten fluffy chicks. I witnessed their desperate calls when scattered by a fox. After hours of searching, the mother managed to gather them. Sadly, two weeks later, only four chicks remained, and eventually just two. Whether due to foxes visiting at dawn or other perils, the family’s size dwindled. Below are images, among others, capturing their journey together.
